20 Years Old

Date: May 21, 2012
Area: Santiago, Chile
Companion: Elder Salz & Elder Chung

Hey!

How is everyone? I should start off by saying thank you so much for all the birthday wishes! They were awesome and they made my day! I have the best friends and the most wonderful family. I am definitely lucky to know all of you, so thank you! I can´t believe that I´m really 20 now (well almost. I´m going to live it up today as my last day as a teenager!!!) But its kind of strange. I don´t feel that old! Time flies!

But this week was a good one. I guess it was ok. It started off with a bummer. Our 3 best investigators that were progressing towards their baptism, who had a date and had come to church, went to a family party last Sunday after church and basically the mom of the lady and the whole family told them off for listening to us (even though they are like 50 years old! HOW STUPID!) And they listened to them and decided not to listen to us anymore. It was a bummer. But we did find a really great investigator a couple days ago. His name is Nelson. He is 11 and had met with the missionaries like 6 months ago and then stopped. But we were riding our bikes down a street and he stopped us. He was with his Mom, who is a less active member, and he told us that he wanted to listen to us again. He came to church and everything so I am excited about that! Other than that, I don´t really know where the week went. It was just a week of workin hard but we are still in the finding mode again (I guess you never really get out of that mode haha) but things are really going well. I love my companions and am really lucky to be here with them, very blessed.

Lindy asked me a few questions in her email and so I´m going to answer those cause I don´t really have any other exciting news haha. she asked, .Have the members you eat lunch with fixed any interesting things? Or any delicious desserts? What did you do last P-day? What are you doing today? Can you do any site seeing? Are there any places so far that are must sees for the family Christmas Chile trip in 2013?

Well, the members usually make us good food. There was one day this week when we tried something that I had never had though. We went to the lady´s house but she had kind of forgotten that we were going over that day but she invited us in to eat anyway. But she had blood sausage. It looked really bad and was this big fat black sausage there on my plate. But I remembered Dad´s rule and you have to try at least one bite (well, I like to try new things too=) so I was like, ok Elder Salzl, we´ve both got to eat at least one bite. He was like NO WAY! So I kept buggin him telling him that he had to do it and he was like NO! But I cut it open and the most terrible smell came out and went right into Elder Salzl´s face and that sealed the deal, there was no way he was going to do it. The smell really was bad. But I decided that I had to do it so I tried it. The tast wasn´t the most horrible thing, it was more the smell and the thought that I was really eating basically straight blood and so I tried it and didn´t really want more of it. I decided that I could make an exception to the rule and leave something on my plate that time. Last P-day we went downtown and just looked around some of the shops there. There really isn´t much to do here in Santiago. But today was better. Today was a national holiday so there wasnt any school and so we got a group of youth together to go to the church and play some mini soccer (futbol). It was tons of fun! The Missionaries won 15 to 13! It was great! haha. As for cool sites here in Santiago, I don´t really know of anything yet, there isnt that much to see here in the city. I´ll keep lookin though.

But mom, we have been using that paper clip floating on top of the water thing lately in lessons and it is really really awesome! It works! Except for when its sitting there on top of the water and then somebody bumps the table and then it sinks =) But its a great object lesson! I loved it. Question: Do you know of any good Family Home Evening games? We are in need of some good games!
Anyway. Thanks for everything and for all the birthday wishes! I Love you all and I´ll be thinking about you all extra this week.

Love
Elder Jaromy Holland
