Area: Santiago, Chile
Hola
Familia,
Elder Jaromy
Holland
It sounds like you
are all doing good, it was great to be able to talk to you all on skype the
other day! It was almost like I was there with you for a little bit. and now its
only like 4 months and a little bit until we skype again!! (buy whose
counting?=)
But this week was a
bit slow for us here in Principal. This week we decided to change the area where
we focus our working and so that kind of killed everything haha. We moved from
one side of the sector to the opposite where there aren`t any investigators, but
it is where the strongest family in the ward lives so we are planning on working
a lot with them. The dad (Presidente Nuñez) should be a 70. He is SO cool! He
has a gift for explaining the gospel and making people see that the Church of
Jesus Christ of Latterday saints is the only true church. It is amazing to
listen to him, he has taught all of us missionaries a lot.
But it was slow
because we had to keep up with the few investigators that we had in our old
focus area (the missionaries have been working steady there for like 6 or 7
months and so its burned out) and so between keeping in touch with those
investigators and in walking to the new area and contacting/knocking and finding
we lots quite a bit of time, but this week should be better.
We did find a really
cool lady though. She is Evangelical and she is really friendly and says hi to
the entire world (she is kind of crazy but its ok=). But we met her on friday
and she said that she loves to read. She was sitting outside of her house
selling clothes and stuff and we weren`t really able to share the Restauracion
with her but we gave her a BOM and a folleto of lesson 1. She liked it and she
gave us some references of people that she knows that need help=) it was
awesome, she actually got up and went with us to the houses of the people to
show us where they lived haha. But then on Saturday we met with her and had a
great lesson. She really understood everything and she understood that her
church and pastor don`t have the authority to do preach and have a church and
everything. She understood the restoration and Joseph Smith and everything. And
when we started to talk about the book of Mormon she cut us off and said ¨I`ll
have this book read by Monday!¨ (remember, it was Saturday) She was really
excited and even cried and she said that she never cries... judging by her
character i`d guess that she never does cry haha so it was pretty cool. Its
amazing how the spirit works and how it testifies of the truth to the
people.
But there was another
moment in the week that stood out to me. It was one day in the morning and
basically to give you the run down, our house is a mess and its been pretty bad
for a while because they are painting the house but the guy that is painting the
house doesnt work very hard or fast so he has been painting the one room
upstairs for about a month. All of our beds are in piled up in a room down
stairs and we have to take them out everynight to sleep and everything. All of
our things are in the house in front... in short the house is chaos. It bugs me
a little bit but its ok, I am learning patience =) People just dont really clean
up after themselves.
But in the morning
the other day the matrimony that takes care of the houses, the pensionistas,
called and said that they were outside of our house waiting for the guy that is
painting to get there so that they could come in and see the house and
everything. So we had like 5 chaotic minutes where we all scrambled around and
cleaned up the house! Haha, it was actually kind of funny but a though popped
into my head, that nobody knows when Jesus is going to come and he really isnot
going to give us a five minute warning when he comes to get ready and do some
last minute repenting before the fireworks start... I thought, ¨are you ready?¨
Just an interesting thought.
But I love you all so
much, thanks for everything you do for me! love,
