Hola Familia!
From all the
letters it sure sounds like things are going well! I´m glad to hear it.
I got the voice
message from grandma, I like hearing her laugh, it makes me smile. I sent her a
thank you letter from the package she sent me for christmas so hopefully it gets
there... if not than thank you again!!!
Dad, thanks for
the emails. I got the one from last week this week so I had 2 to read! I like
getting your letters, hearing the little clips of how everyone is doiong. It
sounds like things are looking up in San Diego Zerorez!!! Yeah!! Are you looking
at getting any new trucks in the near future? And someone in the ward told me
that Mitt Romney had dropped out of the running so I´m definitely glad that he
is still in it! Hopefully he wins! He´d really make a great president!
As for me and my
week it was a pretty good one. We found a couple more people to teach but we´ve
only been able to meet once so we will see how they turn out once we can meet
again. Yesterday we went with a member of the ward, actually the Elders Quorum
President, to a lady´s house who was in pretty bad shape. She has something
wrong with her and gets dizzy and falls. She fell recently and broke some bone
in her back that is really really painful. She also suffers from depression and
tried to kill herself a few days ago with pills. She lives a block away from the
church but we are going to be helping her out alot and are going to get the
relief society involved. She has no food in her house and can´t work so we are
going to get some stuff for her from the bishops storehouse.
In church, it
was great. The bishop had a really frank discussion with all the ward members
about changing the attitude of the ward for the next year. He really set things
in line finally with the parents needing to be better examples for the youth and
to not let the youth do stupid things like have piercings or work on Sundays. He
talked about having a better and bigger vision for ourselves and being members
during the entire week, not just on sundays. It was great and hopefully it is
going to change things in the ward a bit.
We had a zone
conference with President Essig this week and his assistants and I absolutely
LOVED it! It was so great. I liked what the assistants taught, that we should be
more than just missionaries to the investigators and that they should mean more
to us. We should be great friends more than anything. We should let them know
how much we care before we try to teach them. They should really be friends and
I think thats how it should be in life with everyone that we meet, be a friend
first and then try to help and teach. It was like something straight out of the
book ¨How to Win Friends and Influence People¨ It was really good. But I really
loved what our president talked about.
We, as a
mission, have the vission to become more like Jesus Christ. In order to do this
President Essig has given us different steps to help us in that search. In this
step (the fourth) he presented repentance. He said that it is the thing that
will most rapidly help us to become more like Jesus Christ. We should be
repenting all the time of the things that we do wrong and we should do it
altiro! Or immediately! We shouldn´t wait because the longer we wait the more
time we have to live without the spirit and the more time we are on our own. If
we are on our own then we are more likely to sin and thats just a bad cycle. So
to repent as soon as we can is key- He also talked about building personal
defenses against sin. That there are three factors, us, an attraction to a sin,
and the sin. We can do many things to help us stop repetative sins that are hard
for us to not do. We can remove ourselves from the situations where we are
likely to commit the sin, we can pray for and remove the attraction and desire
to sin and finally we can remove the sin from where we are. I thought it was
great advice. We are all growing and learning everyday but we aren´t perfect. We
have to work at not sinning and to repent when we do and as we do I know that
the Lord will forgive us for what we have done and we can be clean again.
Thats all I´ve
got for this week, but I love you all so much. Thanks for everything
Les amo,
Elder Holland
