Hola
Family & Friends,
As for my week
I said it was crazy.. and it was. I didn't think that being district Leader
would have that much to do, and really it shouldn't. Missionaries are pretty self-sufficient
and everything so it should just be like an example role. Well I guess I should
start with Hermana Garcia, the new girl. She has been doing LOADS better! So
much better from when she first got into our district which has been really
great to see. She has really become part of our district. So that is one thing
that was great. But she has been having some sort of complication from her
wisdom teeth extraction and she went to the dentist yesterday and he is sending
her home until she gets better from her complications. Our whole district feels
really bad about her going. Another Hermana in our district (who is absolutely
amazing: she's the coordinating sister) had some complications from an accident
she had as a child (she was hit by a car) and had to have her front two teeth
removed on Monday! She is the happiest person ever and always smiling so its
hard to see her so down but our district is all super supportive of her
and she is doing better now. She was really nervous about the surgery so I
offered on Saturday to give her a blessing, and so on Monday my companion,
Elder Eves, and I gave her a blessing. It was a really wonderful experience
because there is truly power in the priesthood. I know that that prayer, that blessing,
was from God, not from me. It was a really wonderful experience and she felt so
calm afterwards which was great. I know the Lord was, and is, with her. To top
it all, the sister missionary from Brazil, Hermana Simplicio, got called out to
the field early by her mission president. She found out on Monday night and
then she left Wednesday morning really early. The district is different without
her but she is definitely where she is needed. And I guess this is the icing,
we lost one of our awesome teachers too (I told you about that last week but
Saturday was her last day). So there have been quite a few changes in our
district this week and its been kind of crazy. But it’s really cool to see
people reaching out to others and helping them and supporting them. Everyone is
definitely a lot closer this week than we ever have been before.
So that’s the
district. We had a devotional this last Tuesday with Elder Lund (the guy that
wrote the Work and the Glory) and it was a really great talk. He talked about
faith and exercising faith. The prerequisites for faith are that you have
to hear the word by one that has a testimony of it and then you have to have a
softened heart. If your heart is hard there is no way that the word can make it
through and then the whole process is stopped. When you've heard the word with
a soft heart you gain a hope that these things are true. When you have a hope
(which is another word for faith) then you are tried. If you continue to have
faith then you get a confirmation of the truthfulness of the gospel. This is
such an important process for each one of us that we need to do individually.
Everyone must gain their own testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel.
He told a
couple stories of missionaries that were going to appointments that fell
through and that because they fell through they met other people that were
searching for the church and accepted the gospel. When he was telling these
stories I got the strongest impression, the strongest feeling and then the
thought came to my mind that I am going to Chile for a reason. My call is
inspired of God and there is a reason I'm going there. I know this church is
true and I'm so grateful to be a part of it and to have it in my life. I love
you all so much and thank you for all your support. I pray for you every day.
Les amo,
Elder Holland
