Changes

Date: October 30, 2012
Area: Santiago, Chile
Companion: 3 New Companions

Hey Familia,

So this last week was basically crazy, all week. I haven`t been in a trio. I was in a quadruple! We were 4 Elders! It was a bit crazy. I was with Elder McCombs, Elder Willoughby (who isn`t American.. hes Canadian!!!=) And with Elder Rhodes, from Logan Utah. But Elder Rhodes went home on Friday. He actually knows Hayley Holland! Small world. How is Hayley by the way. I was thinking about her this last week and I heard that she was going to open her mission call this week!!?? How crazy! let me know where she goes.

But it was kind of fun this last week. Its strange teaching a lesson when there are 4 Elders present.. it makes it a little strange to teach but it was lots of fun. But we were able to do lots of splits and get quite a bit done, in spite of all the meetings and interviews and things that one has to do when they go home. But Elder Rhodes left at the end of the week and now we are in a trio. Its pretty fun. There are 5 Elders living in our house now and its really fun, I like it=) but the new sector where I am is great. Its called Principal and Mom, we don`t get cars here in the mission.)= the only ones here in the mission with a car are President, the assistants and there is one other that the office shares- we are poor. haha.

But things are going well here. The zone is doing ok. Its not great but it could be worse too. So we are going to be working with them to try to help the zone get better and have more animo for the work. My zone comp, Elder Patterson is great. He got here with me and I met him in the MTC. In my first change I did exchanges with him for a day which was fun so I know him from before, but he is a great guy. We are going to have fun here.

I was sad to leave Cerro Colorado but I am doing well here. We had two baptisms on Saturday and 4 confirmations on Sunday. The Elders have been sacando la mugre aqui. (they have been working hard) and there are lots of other people that have lots of potential of being baptized. So we will be working hard with all of them to get them ready and to find others to teach and help to the waters of baptism.

I still don`t know the ward or sector really well but that will come with time. I haven`t had as much trouble orienting myself in a sector since my first sector in Corona Sueca and I`m not sure why... but its all good cause i`m going to get it down here soon. But really, life here is good. Its just going by way too fast. I am getting scared for the last 6 months, I want time to slow down a little bit.

But Mom, thanks for the package with my socks- I threw out all the old ones. These should last me til the end of my mission. As for the Christmas Package, I`m really fine without one. I can get everything I need here in a store called Lider (its a branch of wallmart) and they even sell oreos!!!=) So seriously I really don`t need anything- save the money mejor. There is a place here that we are going to go next week where you can buy ties for 1-2 dollars each so I can just buy some there. I was thinking about buying a bunch and sending them home for spencer and cutler but mostly for spencers misison. They are so cheap that it would be better than buying ties there in the states. what do you think?

Dad, As for the sat or act prep, I really have no idea which class would be the best one. You`ll have to talk to someone at school for that one. But thats crazy about the presidential race!! We`ll have to see how it goes here in a bit more than a week=)

Lindy- don`t worry about the trip next summer, 2014 mejor. We can go then. Keep up the good work and thanks for all the pictures of the chocolate covered strawbs. They looked good. I`ll have to buy some strawbs here and make some =) they are really cheap here.

But Spencer, I was thinking about what would have been of the greatest help to me to have known before the mission and a few things came to mind. If I could go back and prepare myself again I would do several things. I would have made the habbit of writing in my journal every day to prepare me for writing in the mission. form the habbit, you are going to want it. In your ward, pay close attention to how everything works. Basically the church works so well because of the organization that it has but lots of times the organization doesn`t carry as well as it should to other parts of the world. But if you pay close attention to the things that make the church work there when you get sent out you will be able to help the people in the wards you serve in to know what to do to make things run smoother. And third, go out with the missionaries as much as you can. Ask them to take you out with them and then go. Just a few suggestions=) Hope they help.

Anyway, life is great here, I am doing well and its going to be a great change! Take care, I love you all,

Elder Jaromy Holland
