Short Note

Date: July 23, 2012
Area: Santiago, Chile
Companion: Elder Barnes

Hola Familia,

But is sounds like the family is doing well. Cutler is probably getting pretty excited to get up there to the tournament and play. It sure sounds like he is getting pretty good =) He´ll probably be better at waterpolo than me but he will never be faster than me =P haha I won´t let him be!

But I don´t have much time to write today. But it was another good week. Well the whole week was great, we are working hard and being very blessed with people to visit. We are teaching alot during the week which is always really good because that way we are not bored walking around in the calle. But we really have a lot of potential in the sector and we are working to get better at working with the members to help the investigators to progress. We have a new plan as a mission to work with the members alot more so that is what our big focus is going to be this coming week because this last week we kind of had a bummer at church. We were really really excited about church this week. We were expecting like 9 investigators to come to church. We have lots of people that were going to come. We had plans with some of the members to help them to get to church and we went to look for a couple of them ourselves. But Sunday mornin before church we were making some phone calls to the people trying to make sure that they would be there in church but everythign went bad. It was like with EVERYONE! And the people that we went to look for were sleeping and we were ringing the doorbell for like 5 minutes straight and yelling their names, throwing rocks at the window. Nothing. They didn´t wake up. And so we went to church and there was only one investigator that came, Andres (from Ecuador). We were really sad that nobody else made it to church but at the same time really happy because Andress was able to come and he has a baptismal date for the 12 th of August. We are excited for him. But at the same time we were really sad for all the other people that didn´t come to church.

But I learned an important lesson. Because it really put me in a bad mood that everyone had said that they would be there at church and then nobody made it, they all flaked! I was frustrated and disappointed and, well, not in a good mood. But I was like that for most of the day but later on in the day Elder Barnes and I were talking about it and we realized that really we shouldn´t feel too bad. We were working hard, we did our job, we invited and made preparations for the people to make it to church but they were the ones that didn´t complete. They fell short, not us. And so we realized that we really shouldn´t feel so bad, like we were the failures because that isn´t true. We weren´t the ones that failed. We should feel good knowing that we did our part, that we tried our best and not get down on ourselves. We should definitely feel sad for those people who didn´t complete with the promises they made, not to us but to the Lord, because they didn´t come to church, but we shouldn´t get down on ourselves. We can only do our part, we can´t do the part for the other people. As Dad always says, you can lead a horse to water but you can´t make it drink.

Thanks for everything, I love you all. Sorry the letters so short,

Love,

Elder Jaromy Holland
